022 switches have a special “automatic switching” feature utilizing the derailing function, that I read in my old Lionel book. If there are a LH & RH switch at each end of a siding, and you want to have the thru train alternate between using the siding and mainline, it seems you can connect the outer terminals of the 2 switches directly, & the switches will control each other, changing as the train passes over the switch.
However, I in my newbie approach, can’t make this work! I want to have 2 sidings on each side of a large loop, & have the train go in & out of each sidng alternatively, & have it all automatic (to give the kids an ongoing running experience without hands on control.
Is there a special trick needed, not in my old Model Railroading book (ie. use direct voltage; only can do it with one siding; whatever?)? I am using a ZW, so have plenty of voltage/options.
Appreciate any clues (if I have been clear enough).

Disregard my question; the 022 features work great…if you have debugged your switches & found open solder connections.
