022 Switch Controllers

I have several 022 postwar switches that are missing the controllers. Does anybody know of a good place to buy replacement controllers? I have been looking at several ebay auctions, and I was wondering what other options there might be.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, 022 switch controls are basically single pole double throw monentary contact type switches used to throw the switch, center wire powers either wire for a second or two. You can use 027 switch controls but watch out for the center wire position. Radio Shack or other electronics store may have something in stock.
Doubt that you will find switch controls separately on ebay, try a train show instead.

Doorbell buttons from Lowes or Home Depot, or the local hardware store work fine too, if you’re really cheap like me. They make great controllers for Gatemen, horns, whistles. Just hook em up (two for each switch) between the center post and the outer posts. You can even add indicator lights across each switch if you wanna get fancy…

I use the Lionel controllers; but I have often suggested a scheme that may appeal to those who locate their controls on a map of the layout. That is to put a pair of studs (screw heads) on the lines that represent the two branches of each switch. Then throw the switches by touching the studs with a grounded probe. It’s dirt cheap, simple to build, easy to use, and has a kind of high-tech feel to it.

Another non-Postwar option is to use the controller for a modern O-22 switch. The part number is 6SP-5132-200, and it’s available direct from Lionel for $12 + shipping.
