In moving things around, the contacts for the control button of this uncoupler were jammed together… The plastic melted and it no longer works Is there a way to repair? I get continuity between the screw under the center track and the outside track and none from the screw to the center track. I have changed control buttons, but still not working. it is the simple “uncouple only” track wired to a control button. I thought only the plastic melted and warped, so I sanded it down… I see no other damage, but the fine wire wrap may be shorted?
The electromagnet coil is probably burned out. The coil, part #6019-31 is available from Brasseur Electric Trains if you want to repair your track, otherwise replacing the entire track is the only other option.

I did check out the part, but before I ordered, I took the current track apart… It seems that the meltdown allowed some of the coil to contact the middle rail… I removed the coil, and it seemed to work, (kind 0f) so I used some “liquid electrical tape”… on the coil and the track… hmm still didn’t work. I did find one on ebay, cheap enough to order. But I will try to fix this one too. Again thanks for the super resource. I have bookmarked Brasseur. The coil itself is probably burned out internally. If you are ambitious, you can purchase the correct gauge magnet wire, and rewind the coil.

After better insulating between the coil and track, I get some “pull”, but not enought to open a knuckle or pull the shaft of a dump car. So you are probalby correct that the coil is damaged. I discovered an ebay set of 4 remote tracks, including the one I needed for only 12 bucks including shipping… So that’s my solution for now. I’ll probably still order the coil from Brasseur, too. Thanks for the great information.

Probably not worth fixing. It seems that O27 control tracks are free to a dime a dozen at meets.
