09 Walthers Catalog

Anybody got theirs yet? I see there’s a guy on E Bay selling them, but I thought Walthers said they wouldn’t be out till the first of next year.[%-)]

They’re definitely out. My LHS sold several boxes worth at the NMRA convention and she is now expecting another shipment to come in.
The price is higher than it has been in the last couple years, but not as high as it has ever been.

Cool! I guess they’re $15 this year. A guy on E Bay has them for $12 with free shipping if buy something else from his store.

What the hey??? I just got my October 2008!!! [:(!]

they’re talking about the annual catalog, not the bi-monthly/quarterly mini catalog of sales and stuff…

There is a stack of them at my LHS. I probably won’t get one this year. I have last years and I do most of my “looking” on line.

I think that we have had ours about a month.

They came out a month early. My copy is by the bedstand for like 5 weeks or less now.

What is truly shocking to me is how the Proto 2-10-2 is MSRP at 500+ dollars when the earlier runs a few years ago were only 300+ or so. And these models were essentially unchanged.

The issue is a nice one, a bit heavy on the NYC Passenger which I think is a goodie.

The pricing on the catalog is a bit better and things move on year to year. I remember some of the early 80’s catalogs and wished I kept them.

I was just wondering. Walthers told me on the phone 2 months ago that they wouldn’t shipped out till Jan. or Feb.

Welcome, My friedn to the world of inflatioj. Random prices changing randomly…

I got mine last weekend, been out about a Month. my LHS hasn;t goteen one, but the Hobbytown an hour away got more than enough. I love the modekling pictures they use.

These images that they use are great.

Shocking, yes, but let’s face it–lots of people use the catalog as a “reference manual” and actually order from an online discounter, where they can find the stuff cheaper.

(Years ago, I’d do the same thing, but order from a discounter that advertised in MR.)

That’s right on the money. I use it to find what I am looking for and either but it online cheaper or 90% of the time Ebay it. But I have never ordered from Walthers.

I usually order when they are on sale. I just ordered a Tannery set box for like 100 something dollars instead of retail 150+ or whatever it is. I see it as a big box of modulars parts and cheaper than buying those itty bitty 10 dollar modular blister parts.

But rather, I use it as a guide for Ebay when the pricing gets to be iffy or a war over a train item. Most useful.

I got mine 3 weeks ago but they were out before that up here in Canada.

They are free with purchase on dallasmodelworks. I just ordered one this morning owth spome other stuff.

Last Chance-I saw that killer sale price on the tannery! I wish I would have had the $$$ for it.
Is it worth getting even at the $150 price? Are there a lot of details in it?

I noticed this in the October “sales” flyer as well. Outrageous prices on some of the stuff. Unless they’ve really upped the quality of the NYC passenger cars to a level compariable to the BLI cars there is no way I’ll be buying that set.

Of course they tried this once before when they first bought the Proto-2000s. Produced a ton of stuff at high prices and it didn’t sell. They had to lower the prices, and that angered everone (including the hobby stores) who had be silly enough to pay the higher prices to begin with. [sigh]

Here is a little N scale version of the Tannery Kit that I know of.

Halfway down this page you will find the information on the buildings.

I see the Tannery kit as a gigantic box of modular parts and use it to build my own buildings in different ways. Always have something left over when finished so I save those towards the next one.

I built a cold storage using the little walthers blisters for 7 bucks a shot. wound up over 200 bucks. It was a learning lesson and sort of led me to the big boxes of tannery and sterlings as a value buy believe it or not.

Ive produced quite a few out of two or three of them so far. Sold off one on ebay so far.

The walthers catalog is very nice because where we are the internet is not always 100% The battery helps but electric grid is the problem. Maybe one day we will get power off the sun and by pass the unreliable grid.

Maybe you didn’t notice, but the MSRP of everything has gone up; it’s just more noticeable with the locos.

A few items have gone up 3 times already this year!

Yay, economy!
