Finally, 1 more ,month before the great expansion! I get move a big couch in the basment, and expand my layout from 4x6, thin it out with a 4x2 board for the track to go in, and make it longer. There will be a return loop for the layout. It will go down to a 3x10 or 2x10 board, then out to a 5x4 board for the return loop.
So the length of the layout will be 22 feet, and is there a way to calculate the length of track? Also, I am not planning on doing the whole DCC thing, but if I do, will i need some sort of power booster? Also, with regular DC would I need a booster or something?
EDIT: IMAGE REMOVED, too small
Congratulations on your pending expansion.
Boosters are more a function of the number of locomotives running at a time, not so much the size of the layout, though larger layouts typically run more engines. My rule of thumb is 1 amp for every loco.
What would be the best DCC system if I am only going to be using 3 to 4 engines at the most? I would prefer an easy to use one, with a screen that has the walkaround option.
