$$$12,000,000,000,000.00 TRILLION DOLLARS !!!!!

USA currently uses 100,000,000 MILLION BARRELS of OIL DAILY!!! costs currently $ 1.30 a gal (gasoline) plus add on all taxes = $ 1.85 gal. that costs the USA $$$ 7,000,000,000 BILLION a DAY!!! thats 5 times more than all the wally world stores sales on busiest day of year. our pathetic addiction adds up to 22000000000000 trillion a year. aaarrrggghhh!!! OOUUCCHH. them big boys got us hooked like a crack head on rock!!! they is going to keep it that way too. dust off them horses n buggies.get out the bike in the attic.get on yer walkin shoes. any way were the steak n potatoes ticket for them good ole boys.(more like lobster n caviar) like the doctors got 100000000 folk on drugs, treating the problem but not cure ing the disease, when there are much better alternatives out there. the only ANSWER i can see is the son indeed. truely the answer to all our energy problems(the oil cos hate the word son.) them oil cos and govt dont want solar use couse the son is free and ther dont own it . the son is for everyone!!! the big ole boys got all that solar break through tech. in the same cobbed webbed safe the 100+mpg tech is for autos!!! it aint moovin .IF 7 BILLION a day went into OUR economy instead to middle east there would be no unemployed no trade dev. lower taxes more money in our pockets more happy campers. what the cause of all this insanity?? well the only 3 things the big ole boys care about(and it sue the heck aint us) its money, money, money, or other words me,me,me.things will never change until they change the me word to we,we,we.God put us here to help, share, love each other, not to ignore, take or hate. as long as men run the world there will be greed and big pride for power. back to rrs. GOOD NEWS for us!!! RAILROADS will PROFIT MUCH.!!! more orders for more and larger locomotives on the way hey hey hey. more employment on rails hail hail.rrs are by many times over the safest, least pollution, most oil effecient and highway wearing way to ship. lets hope the rr men on top will change for a change now.

Ok- but i’m not sure how to react… I use my BMW to get me everywhere

(Bus, Metro, Walk, or even TRAIN!!!)

Kevin - you made my day!

Mook

My goodness! I’m not sure where these figures came from, but my research just now shows that the US uses about 20 million barrels of oil per day (not 100,000,000 MILLION). That’s 7.3 billion barrels a year. At a high price of $40 per bbl, thats $800 million per day (as opposed to the $ 7,000,000,000 BILLION cited), and just shy of $300 billion per year. Still very significant, but no where near the figures orginally quoted.

And now back to our regular programming…
Alas, the grocery store is 15 miles, work is 20. Nearest passenger rail is 75, same for an airport of any size. Local mass transit? Kevin, I need one of your laughs! I walk (or ride the bike) to the PO, to the local convenience store, any place I can in our little hamlet, but the rest is me and my pick-em-up truck.

I get into little bunches of cars and trucks on my way to and from work. They all came from different places and go in different directions. Car pooling is out.

OK, so I could get a hybrid. I’ll need an SUV, since it has to be able to handle the lights, siren, radios, and all of my other FD gear, EMS gear, and what I carry around for work. Sorry, I don’t do Ford.

Mind you, I’m not saying we don’t need to reduce the amount of fuel we use, but we also have to consider how much of that fuel is used in production. Haven’t seen much on hybrid farm tractors yet…

And, how about we attack an industry that does over $3 billion a day? And kills people! (Hint - you had some for breakfast.) Yep - food. We consume around $3 billion worth of food each day in this country. And a lot of it is bad for us. Oh, and by the way, some of that oil was used to produce, then carry the food to market.

A little less hysteria, please. And some real facts.

Don’t forget all the oil and/or other petroleum based fuels required to keep these bits and bytes coming to us!

I like Larry’s numbers better here, though I get the general idea of the rant. For my part in all of this, I directly consume 30 to 50 gallons per month, of course I don’t leave home very much.

I have said before, my computer is coal fired. I recently heard that it takes 2 lumps to send 1 megabyte over the internet. At that rate I might consume a car load per year!!! Oh well, I think i’ll just keep talking.[swg]

The good ole boys might not be who you think they are. The worst of the lot gather in groups of 100 and 435 a large white building with a dome in the middle.

One reason you and I can’t buy a 80mpg vehicle today is it would bankrupt state and federal governments. If you and everybody else cut your gas/diesel consumption by over half, how much tax revenue would be “lost” at 50cents a gallon at the pump?? (Larry, got your calculator handy?)

While we’re ranting on the subject of oil, why do we send our money over there for their oil? We have enough oil under the U.S. to keep thing going for a while. But, thanks to the EPA and greenpeace and others, it’s uneconomical to get and use it. We have no-one to blame for this situation, but our liberal friends and their expensive, misguided ideals.

OK I’m done, I apologize, but I feel better.

Isn’t $$$12,000,000,000,000.00 getting pretty close to a zillion?

I suggest buying into shares of hydroelectric and copper now. You’ll be a millionaire later when the big grades get catenary MILW-style, starting with smog-choked Cajon and Beaumont. It’s gonna reach the point where the added cost of new electric locos and the time it takes to swap power at end-of-wire will be nothing compared to the cost of oil.

If you really have to drive, choose an ethanol blended gas or bio diesel! Support American farmers! Better for you and better for America

ooppss!!! may have added a few too many gollons. a slip of the wrist or finger,or a short circut in my gourd when figgern it up. my erroniuos error.

5X the profit of wallyworld stores on their busiest day? Hand me the thorazine…this might sting abit. Okay, feel better…? Does anyone else see that 5,000 pound elephant in the room or is it just me? I thought so…it must be my paranoia.

Way to go Rrnut282, it is good to see some people know the proper place to point their finger. Of course there is the question of WHICH finger?[}:)][;)][:D]

I think Stelli has the right idea too.[2c][tup][tup][#ditto]Eventually we want all the wires connected, but we should start NOW!!!

Oh, and Jesus, we forgive you for the extra zeros.[swg][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Live out in the country.I do carpool.mamma and i ride together to work.I cant wait until they build the new ethonal plant between defiance and hicksville.another siding to watch on the old B&O line.
stay safe
joe

We have no public transit here…the only way to get around is my truck (chevy).

Signed:HE WHO LIVES NOWHERE!!!

Keep in mind you won’t get as good milage on an ethanol blended gasoline.

I don’t know what you folks in the states are complaining about, I go down to Point Roberts (little part of washington state) all the time to buy my gas… I regularily save $6 - $10/tank buying your gas instead of Canadian gas.

We su just gots too many taxes.

A small idea ; Southern Company, a major customer of two fine un-Western or Northern roads, just happens to own a couple of patents that deal with the refining of coal (read carloads) to a very clean dry fuel for use in their boilers. this is just a couple of steps away from making oil out of coal that is proven technology. Why the fuss over arab oil when we have the means and tech to make our own from what we have here at home? Just a question to the great minds on line at thsi site.

Why not ethanol locomotives??? (Love to see that in combination with an Alco which ordinarily would spew smoke [:)].) Really, it should work–ethonal will ignite, and it would probably only require minor modifications to a diesel engine. That would get people to stop complaining about railroads being poluting, and start looking at the real trouble–automobiles. I use my bicycle, and we could all use the exercise. Rememeber to wear your helmet.

See you around the forums,
Daniel

Cut oil usage?
Well, beside the obivious, lets see where we all can start.

First, gather up and throw out your entire computer, the monitor case and keyboard alone takes about 2 gallons of oil, in various forms, to produce.

Slip them nikes off your feet, they are 90% synthetics, base product, oil.
Chunk your shorts, socks and jeans too, most have polyester blended into the weave.
Turn off your lights, (oil fired power plants).
By the way, do you know the light bulb you reading by most likely has a thin, plastic coating on it to control breakage?
Open your ice box, and empty it out.
Tupperwear, and those neat little zip lock bags take a huge amount of oil to produce, along with the plastic jug your milk and sodas are in, dont miss the styrofoam and shrink wrap your produce and meats are packed in.
Save one baggie for that really improtant agri-product, though…
All you model railroaders are up the creek…look at how much plastic you have on your layout.
Pull the roof off your house, those asphalt shingles use lots of oil to make.
Throw away your lawn mower, buy a goat instead.
Pull up the carpet, and rip down the drapes and blinds…
get used to putting your garbage in cans again, no more plastic garbage bags.
Every medicine in you home most likely came in a plastic jar, box or container.
No more cell phones, do away with the plastic, make em out of metal, the things would weigh 3lbs.
Wear glasses?
Your lens are probaly made of plastic.
Watch TV?
Chunk it, not only is the TV 90% plastic, the VHS tape, and tape player, the DVD and its player, along with that CD you just bought are all plastic.

Getting the point yet?

If you took a pad and pen, and wrote down every plastic product in your home, and all the oil based synthetic producet you used every day, your going to be shocked.

Yup, cars burn gas, and because of the fixation we have for
