Hello all.
Building a new place and am trying to create a ceiling layout for my son’s room. I’m having some difficulty in locating ceiling layout experience/information via google searches.
I see this as a great opportunity to have trains up and running year round!
Current hardware is somewhat minimal: 027 Lionel NYC Flyer starter set with (6)added cars and a bunch of track (though I’ll need more, surely). I suppose the transformer (mid 90’s) is 40W, basic.
I’d like to avoid making a mess of the foundation of this railway. So far, I’ve had general suggestions to convert to 31" radius O track, and to a remote-controlled (and stronger) transformer, as well as running two mainline tracks.
If this dilemma were yours, how would you approach it? I hope to convert the motive power from the current 2-4-2 steam to a Uboat diesel in an attempt to mimic the local short line. As background, I imagined created 2D panels of buildings/industry as time wears on, as placement of accessories on the inner edge/radius of the layout would be minimized.
If it goes well (and my wallet can stand it), there may also exist an opportunity to extend the railway down a short hall and into a similar adjacent bedroom.
I’d appreciate experienced thoughts both positive and critical of this approach. Also, anyone who’s built or dealt with ceiling layout pros/cons would be extremely helpful.
