1531R controller

I just purchased the 1531R controller and have 2 signals set up to run and sometimes they don’t shut off when they are supposed to. They just stay on and I have to shut the power off and turn power on to get them to work. I have it set up on alternate power. I have an old ZW transfomer. Would like suggestions on how to best use the controller.

Thanks, Mike

[#welcome] to the forum. I don’t have one of these units, but I have seen them. Actually it is a 153 IR controller, with the emphasis on IR which stands for infrared. This unit works off light, but I don’t know if it has a source built into it, and uses the train to reflect it, or if it simply works off ambient light in the room. Ambient light could be a problem.

Another thing is this unit has a time delay feature, up to 5 seconds. It is adjustable, the control for it is under that panel on the front. Hope this helps.

[#welcome] Mike,

The 153 IR works like this; It puts out an invisable infa-red beem of light.
When an object (such as a train) moves in front and breaks the beam it then reflects the beam back to the controler. There by activating the internal switch.

Bright ambient light has been known to play tricks on this device.
To solve this try adjusting the sensitivity and time delay.

If this does not work try taking it off the layout and bench testing it.

I hope this helps!
Please keep us informed about your results.

Thank you.

If the switch is triggered by ambient light, try to use other lamps to light the layout on that spot. Infrared light is not emitted by a TL tube (or fluorescent tube) since that is more to the ultraviolet side of the spectrum. Also the newer powersaving lightbulbs are small fluorescent tubes, and fit in a normal lightbulb fitting.
Another spot on the layout, or a building near it to shield of the ambient light can do the trick as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them out and will let everyone know.

Mike
