17th (I think) Illinois Where-Is-It? (We have some winners!)

I diecided to make my return here by posting another Illinois Where-Is-It?

The Clue:

This city in East Central Illinois is served by 2 Class 1s and a short line. The Class 1s are the Canadian National and Norfolk Southern. The Norfolk Southern branch comes off the mainline at Bement, IL (former Wabash, of course). What is this city?

I will guess Gibson City, IL.

I’ll second that. Welcome back CD.

I’ll third Gibson City.

And throw in another [#welcome] back. You’ve been MIA since 11-02-06. Six months. Time off for good behavior? [(-D]

I don’t know…but on a hunch, I’ll guess Gibson City, Illinois.[:o)]

That works for me too![oX)] [(-D] AND also [#welcome] BACK!

Sounds like it’s at or near an interesting (to me) train-watching place called Gibson City. Went through there once; wouldn’t mind going back.

Now we can wait another six months for CD to show up again to find out if we’re all right (welcome back!).

When was the N&W (NYC&StL) line east of there abandoned ?

The shortline is the Bloomer Shippers Line. (has Mook’s favorite CB&Q engine colors).

IIRC - (not near my citations or maps), N&W pulled the plug east of Gib City in 1984 after a failed attempt by shortline Prairie Central RR and N&W wound up with the remnants.

Come on Delmar-the curiosity is killing us-are we close?[:)]

Now, you wont need to wait yet snother six months to get the answer!

It is in fact Gibson City, Illinois! Expect the next round to come soon!
