This was real railroads doing each job on any given day. Well written and can understand better about why railroads are still doing what railroad do today. The more things change the more they are the same. Thank You

Every time I read an article, it is like a history lesson that I want to pay attention to. Thanks.

I currently live in England, but all through the late fifties and sixties I lived in Montana. When we travelled into Columbus (MT) I would sit in the small park next to the NP tracks, waiting for the North Coast Limited, or the Mainstreeter. My grandfather was a conductor on these passenger trains out of Seattle, and he would describe the journeys he made through all of the seasons and harsh weather, mostly being pulled by a Northern 4-8-4. Sadly, I can also remember the significant number of W-34 mikes being laid-up in Laurel awaiting scrapping.
