1992 presidential train

On the 1992 presidential train for George Bush Sr., there was a CSX locomotive and an NS locomotive that pulled the train. What were the #'s for the locomotives and what was the orgin and destination for this train?

CSX 1992

The first campaign train ran from Columbus, OH, to Flint, MI, on Sept 26 and 27, 1992, on CSX. Pilot train 601 had B36-7 5866 and B40-8 5935 (NYSW 4022). POTUS train 602 had C40-8W 1992 (7812) and 7810, while the follow-up train 603 had 7811 and 7809.

The next train was on NS from Atlanta, GA, to Raleigh, NC, October 20 and 21st. That had CSX 1992 and NS GP60 7140.

CSX 1992 then went to Wisconsin Central for Halloween, Burlington-Stevens Point-Chippewa Falls.

Wow, that was quick!

That is the train I saw. Thank you, Randy and Dale.

Well, since you are “Railfan1”, you need a full set of “Railfan and Railroad” magazines.

Take out the annual 4 page indexes and keep them together, and you can find a lot of things quickly.

Are you sure you don’t have all that stuff memorized?[;)]

One thing that’s not published is the difficulty they had with security in Oshkosh Wis along division street. You had to be there !!!

The cars returned to DC probably for repainting on the Capital Limited from Chicago on election night. I know I was on that train and we kept getting hotbox detection across Indiana. One of the cars handbrakes wasn’t completely released and we had to stop at least four times.

Most of the cars were UP, the rest were CSX, and the AEE diner Zurich. UP diner Overland had 4 satellite domes on the roof. It was hard-wired to CSX diner-lounge Indiana, which contained secretive communications gear, under armed guard.

Randy- tell us more about that please.

That may have been the President’s problem, not enough people were there. He lost Wisconsin by 110,000 votes, as well as Michigan, Ohio, Georgia and the election. The election train only worked in 2 of the 6 States.

Candidates probably see canpaign trains as ineffective after that track record.
