2-6-0

So whtas the word on the new bachman 2-6-0 with sound? has anyone gotten one yet and if so how does it run, before i buy one?

I don’t have one, but thinking of getting one.

What I CAN tell you is that I have several Bachmann DCC onBoard locos…steam and diesels, Spectrums and regular issues ANd I am pleased with all but one. THe one growls at slow speeds and I should send it back to Bachmann to fix or replace, they supposedly have GREAT customer service.

I would not hesitate to buy another Bachmann to add to my roster.

Some like to replace the Decoder with another of their favorite brand, but I find the Bachmann decoders to work well for me.

{Note: I don’t do sound either, but I cannot imagine that that would be any less than the regulars or SPectrums without sound}.

You can get great prices and sales service here:

Sorry for the double post. Enjoy the video!

Looks nice, I’d maybe try increasing the momentum settings a bit to smooth out the speed transitions.

I watch the Bachmann forums a lot. Users are happy with the loco. There are some photos of that sound set up and the the monster, EM-1. Search the forum for 2-6-0.

SoundTraxx has the CV list for the loco also. I think Bachamnn has the CV list and links have been posted in the HO forum.

You must remember not everyone fine tunes the CV’s to please evryone in some You Tube videos.

The only draw back is the limited pickups in the tender. Replacing them with Proto or Kato caboose trucks helps the pickups drastically.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. It runs very well. I need to tweak the CVs, too, because it does start up too fast. I’ve had it running around the layout backwards and forwards, and it doesn’t derail at any of my typical trouble spots.

But, I bought it as a birthday present for myself. My birthday isn’t until next Friday, so don’t tell me, OK? It’s supposed to be a surprise.

Agreed- nice locomotive, even if it does start a bit too fast.

I imagine that both adjusting the CVs and removing the extra capacitors from the back of the motor will help its low-speed performance.

Every 2-6-0 used in the area I model had slide valves rather than the piston valves used on the model, so I’ll be looking into changing that.

…Ordered three of them from Micro Mark. Have not had an opportunity to run them yet. In the process, also bought two brass 2-6-0s. My new layout will not be so focused on large freight, but rather based upon the Roanoke and Soutnern (may 2010), a layout I had really loved since I first saw it.

As I “retired” last june (ha ha), I am seeing myself woth more freedom, so I tore wodn the old layout, and after the room gets a good “GI-ing”, will proceed to buildiong the “new and improved” version.

Bachamnn has another winner that will be a new standard measurement of decent quality and of reasonable cost.

I, myself have bought a couple of these with sound and a couple without.

This is the second latest offereing from Bachmann in their Standard line and not the Spectrum line,

The other latest release was their 2-8-4 Berkshire which is another winner for Bachmann and now the 2-6-0 with sound and of decent quality as well.

A bit plain but a couple of detail parts added and you have a contender. This is a light weight engine and I am sure will become the main power of many a layout in the near future.

I hadn’t intended to buy this so soon, but when I went to my LHS I was told they couldn’t keep them on the shelves. I got the last one they had in stock. I’d have to agree that this engine is an incredible value for the money. It sounds like a lot of others feel the same way. At a time where every other RTR engine price seems to be going through the roof, Bachmann deserves a lot of praise for giving us an engine of this quality at such a good price.

Some may be a bit disappointed with the sound. It doesn’t have brake sounds, couplers or some of the other sound options we’ve come to expect. But, you can ring the bell and toot the whistle, and let off steam after a hard day at the office, so I wouldn’t let this stop you from buying one of these.

I purchased one about a month ago. It had a wobbly rear driver on the fireman’s side. Sent it back to Bachmann and got the replacement today. It’s better but still has an off centre rear driver on the fireman’s side. Not as bad though. What I do not like about it is that it won’t track through the diverging route of an Atlas Snap switch! I have the Roundhouse Mogul and it has no trouble with those switches. It does have bigger drivers than the Bachmann and a slightly longer wheel base. Don’t know if that’s the difference.

One fellow in the Bachmann forums really seems to be bashing Bachmann for dumbing down the loco. Quite funny. He forgets we are boys playing with toys.

Yes, I am familiar with that post, I find it amazing, amusing, and sad.

People seem to gripe about everything, but if they didn’t, what would we have to laugh at? [D][8D]

Mine runs through my snap-switches with no problem. Have you checked the gauge on all of the wheels?

Thanks MisterBeasley. Yes I have and they are ok. I was thinking I might have to grind the flanges off of the middle drivers. It’s even cantankerous on some #4’s. I’m really disappointed with this loco.

The pick ups on the tender are very good, next to the screw you can see a tab, the wire comes through the tender floor and is soldered to the tab. They dont rely on just the screw for contact, I think it works just fine.

Truck.

Yes the connects on the tender are a quite decent, they are the same on the last standard engine released, the 2-8-4. Seem to be a step up from what the Spectrums had. Hopefully these will be the new standard.
