20' smooth-side container

I am looking for a model (HO) of a 20’ smooth-side container. I think Athearn made one at some point, but I don’t see it in the online catalog anymore. Does anyone know the part # for it? Also, has any other mfg made a any? I know smooth-side 20 footers are rare.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Couldn’t you just cut a piece of styrene and attach it to the side of a ribbed container.

Just a thought.

Go to http://home.wanadoo.nl/schatborn/index2.html . The first item on the list has all sorts of containers. These are paper models, and if you use 110# (cardstock) in your printer you can make very creditable containers. Remember, back in “the day” most model freight cars were wood with cardstock printed sides and roofs!! There are also all sorts of other models on that sight to make - I’ve spent a couple of hours on it and have only touched the surface!! My [2c]

I have some Athearn Matson and Showa 20’ smooth-side containers. The item numbers are ATH2052 and ATH2062 respectively. Sorry I don’t have the undecorated container item number. The Athearn website shows some APL smooth-side containers (ATH2041) but they are marked as discontinued. You’re right in saying that these 20’ smooth-side containers are rare. They occasionally turn up on ebay, that’s where I got mine.

Thanks for the info Tony, that makes it a bit easier to for my search.

You can also download paper containers from IGSHANSA. They’re free so you can make as many as you want. Here’s the link: IGSHANSA
