20' TANK CONTAINERS on flats ?

Were the modern 20’ TANK CONTAINERS ever carried on the older style 50’ flat cars ?

I live near Nashville Tenn where we get quite a few intermodal trains and I don’t recall ever seeing what you describe. That doesn’t mean it never happened.

I can’t think of a good way to tie 'em down. No need to develop one. Just use a TTX car.

If they were they would be tied down the same as the 40’s were. It can be done with chains and chain binders They also used a very heavy binding steel that is disposable. While its very possible I do not remember seeing any 20" tanks though. Are you refering to before the days of TTX?? When were containers not modern? I dont remember the “old” 20’ tank tainers??? [?]

TTX has converted some conventional-looking 60-foot flat cars to carry up to three 20-foot containers–I don’t see any reason why those couldn’t be tank containers.

What about the Boxcars that CNW & N&W cut down to be either TOFC flactcars or COFC skeleton frames. They were a common site in the 80’s and tank tainers wound up on about anything at LA/Hobart kicked out.

CNW’s flat cars (rebuilt from old FGE reefers) were piggyback exclusively.
