I have the 2005 and was wondering if it’s worth the $25 CDN to get the 2006. If you have your new copy can you tell us if there is much new gear or is it a rehash of last year’ line up?
Thanks in advance

I have had my copy for several weeks and it is largely a rehash of the previous years as is typical. There are many new listings including several vendors that I have new to me.
I can not say whether or not it makes since to purchase the book each year, but I try to simply to have the reference. The price is excessive, but I think that it is generally worth the investment. In the past, I have known of individuals who have purchased the book every other year or less often.
There are three main reasons that I opt to purchase the book every year.
If there is one thing I do NOT want to get, it is that catalogue. From what I hear, if I ever got to paw through its pages, I’d be a gonner. [:P][:)]
I’ve bought the annual catalog every year for the past 5 years. I like to see the new listings and new vendors, but I also like to read the sidebar articles and look at the pictures. That stuff changes from year to year, although some of it is recycled from previous years. My LHS usually has it at a discount. If I had to pay full price for it, I probably wouldn’t buy it every year.
As I write this, though, I haven’t thumbed through the newest issue, so I haven’t decided that I need to buy it.
Darrell, quiet…for now
I only purchase the Walters catalog every other year, so I can’t say what it is like compared to the 2005 issue, but the main thing I noticed is all of the new brands being offered, and the removal of Athearn and Model Die Casting products. Even without Athearn and MDC, the 2006 catalog is definitely thicker and has more items than previously.
After I bought my copy and thought I was getting a good discount, I saw two or three offers from other dealers that were selling it for less than what I paid. It’s definitely worth shopping around.
I just bought one from a small train show in Altoona. They had them there for 10.00 each. I love looking at the new stuff out there. The layout photo’s and also the sheet of add you can use in your MRR. They do look great if you know how to prepair them. Each year they give you a new sheet. Well worth it to me.
Nope.
Don’t think I’ll purchase the 2006 edition. Got so turned off last year with the discontinuance of Athearn and a couple of other “main stays,” that I decided to stop my “tithing” to Walthers. [swg]
I do receive their monthly sale flyers. Between those and their web site, that’s $20 plus bucks saved … [tup]
