2011 Winter Steam Festival at the Golden Spike National Monument

Today was the first day of the winter steam festival at the Golden Spike site. Cathey and I went up and took it in. We got to ride a Fairmont speeder and pump a handcar, as well as tour the cab of 119 and watch it go through it’s paces. Here are some pictures:

The festival continues for two more days. It’s a lot of fun on the Utah prairie.

Looks like fun indeed. I haven’t been out there for too long, despite being only an hour’s drive away.

Once again, nothing beats a stylish 4-4-0… When I look at these pictures, I always try to think about all those people, 150 years ago, that saw modernity come in their life into this form… Impresive.
