You can either employ a step-down transformer to reduce the 220V coming from the grit to 110V and hook it to the MTH transformer or use a 100 Watt 220V power supply like the one in the link below:
In the East, Metro-North changed its power to 60 Hz after being informed that AMTK was going to do that. AMTK of course never did that so NYP to WAS is still 25 cycle. North to Boston it is 60 cycle.
NJT and AMTK trains can run on both frequencies, but the MTERO NORTH exuipment can oly run on 60 cycles.
In order to run on 25 cycles the transformer would have to have a much heavier core which the NJT and AMTK equipment have, but which was never put in the MN equipment.
Thus for the Football games in the Meadowlands, it is always NJT equipment that is used east to New Haven even though it is an MN train with MN crews and or pilots for the NJT engineers.
The trasnsformer difference between 60 Hz and 50 Hz is probably nominal. If it does not work, or if it burns up well, then you will know that it did not work.
When the GG-1s ran to New Haven the line was still 25 cycle. A 25 Hz transforme has no problem with 60Hz, theus if you buy a 50Hz transformer it will handle 60Hz with no problem.
NOW COMPUTER SWITCHING TRANSFORMERS are a horse of a different color. You can plug your computer in to 110v or 220v simply by using a different cord, and moving the little recessed switch on the back of the computer which simply cuts in a small resistor.
Some addaptors do not convert power, they only convert the cord from one plug to another. If the equipment will not make internal adjustments for the voltage you will have a problem.
I just found feature on MTH DCS Remote. The remote allow me to change TIS’s AC Input Frequency from 60Hz to 50Hz. So I think I choose “buying brick transformer and 220 Volt to 110 Volt transformer” options
Today I test Uhlenbrock Power Supply 150VA Input 230VAC Output 17VDC (Used for Uhlenbrock DCC Booster). It work well with MTH DCS TIU and MTH LOCO O 3-Rail GE ES44AC and also with MTH HO Locos.
So I not need to find Power Transformer 220V/110V and Lionel Powerhouse Brick
