I’ve taken new photos of these cars I scratched a while back. The Bromine car was done using an article from MR. The 2 dome was built using plans from RMC. Thanks for looking.
Guys, thank you all for your kind comments. The two dome was built in brass by OMI several years ago and can be found on eBay once and a while. Thanks again, Bobby
I have to ask how you get the faint rust effects on the upper surfaces of the tankers and the slightly more visible rust stains below the stanchions (sp?)?
Bromo seltzer for stomach upset, until they found bromine was toxic and ethylene bromide back when gas had lead in it. Now according to wiki it is used as a fire retardant in various plastics. There is a Bromo Seltzer tower in Baltimore and you can buy an HO model of it. http://www.prototypicalmodeltrains.com/product/CMR-Bromo%20Seltzer%20Tower
I remember that MR article on the bromine tank car. The material is so incredibly dense that the cars look mismatched, as if a TT or N scale tank was somehow mated to an HO frame. There are some good shots of bromine tank cars in the Morning Sun color book on tank cars with center sills. There was quite a variety of such cars, but all were small – and if I recall the MR article correctly, were too small to be repurposed so bromine was evidently all they were good for.
Thank you Dave. There were some larger ones that I think are still in service. They have 100T trucks and full length top walkways with end ladders. Google bromine RR tank cars to see photos. Regards, Bobby
