I am just new here and I was hoping that someone could direct me to an article a friend of mine is looking for. It’s called Smithfield Street Operations. Having limited time, I was hoping that one of you had heard of it’s location. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks hg1[?]

When in doubt, Google it out!
Yay, google!
Speaking of which, looking at their sattelite pics, and finding the rail lines was fun, too!

Many thanks to all. If this is what he’s looking for and he had a computer, (his phone is still a rotary), he would thank you too.

I live not far from that area. It’s been redeveloped since the time period in the article. Many of the warehouses are still around, but most, if not all of the tracks have been torn out. It’s difficult to see what’s in there now, since most of it is private property and fenced off. But, there are quite a few high-tech firms down there now.
If memory serves me correctly, the PaTrain used to depart from this station, and there were some privately-owned passenger cars here as well. All of this came out when the new Allegheny County jail was built.
