28 years of Conrail (tons of pics)!

Today is the 28th year that Conrail has been around. Even though they got purchased in 1999 they still exist operating as a terminal railroad in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

I’ll go through my pictures and post some of my CR shots later.[:)]

A long time to continue a bad habit. [:-,][swg]

Sorry Dougal, but
AMEN Bruce!!
The original railroad version of the Borg, I think UP learned a lot from how CR operated. Assimilate everything, then destroy everything you can’t use.
RIP CR! Don’t miss ya a bit!

I will admit that the first few years of Conrail were bad but they cleared up after the goverment let them go in the 80s, but they were better than UP! During the last 10 years Conrail was one of (if not the best) Class 1. I remember that they used to let you into Allentown Yard as long as you stayed in the parking lot. But when Nazi Southern (No offence to NS fans) came in everything change. Most trains are operating at night, GE galore on every train (I better stop with that[:D], On to the pics![:)])

NS SD40-2s push hard on the rear of a intermodel at Horseshoe Curve.

This engine seems to pop up everywere! I saw it in Emmaus, Pa on a freight without a door and every time I go to Altoona it shows up (its assigned to helper duty out of Altoona). This is a special engine since my brothers first puplished photo was of this engine (other side) pulling an Amtrak at Casandra, Pa.

Heres an NS SW1500 with a PC logo in Enola, Pa

Heres a CR Caboose in the late 90s at Allentown, Pa

Here two Conrail engines with a UP in the middle at Horseshoe

Heres one I took a week ago[:)] I NS freight at Macungie, Pa with a UP and BNSF. No NS black in site!

NS 3332 at Altoona, Pa

AND THATS IT (for now)! All of the shots were taken by my brother, dad, and I.

I must admit that I miss Conrail. CSX sucks, All you see is stack trains with GE’s for power, I like stacks, but CSX has overdone it for me. The nice thing about Conrail being gone is NS’s increased traffic on the old Erie-Lackawanna in New York.
