3-axle trucks for military flat car loads...

Hello all…

Does anyone know if a company makes HO 3-axle trucks for military flat car loads?

Thanks, Bill

ROCO Your title suggests you are looking for 3 axle vehicles for flat car LOADS.

Bill, I think the trucks you are looking for are called Buckeye trucks. Here is a link to this topic, it was discussed here a few months ago. I think it will answer your question.

Athearn makes buckeye trucks also, they came on the 250 ton cranes.

Lots of companies make three axle trucks. Look for Athearn, BCW “Kitbits” range, Precision Scale, and Bowser online for several dozen varieties.

But…99.983% of all military loads that have ever been put onto a flatcar in the USA have been put onto cars with only two-axle trucks.

Usually the 6-axle DODX cars only transport tanks, or heavy artillery pieces. Lighter vehicles, light Bradleys, and trucks are transported on regular 4 axle flats.

DODX does have some 6 axle flat cars, but most of the heavy military loads like M1 ‘Abrams’ tanks are transported on standard TTX type 60’ flat cars on normal 2 axle trucks. I saw tanks being loaded in 1990 for ‘Desert Storm’ and still see them being loaded for transport to training exercises.

Bachmann makes flat cars with 3-axle trucks on them, Walthers Catalog number 160-18349, priced at $13.00 each MSRP, and catalog number 160-18344, the same flat car in desert camouflage with a missile on board, priced at $17.00 MSRP.

There appears to be only passenger trucks offered in the 2006 Walthers catalog in a 3-axle type.
