364 lumber loader

Well, I got my trains back from the LHS today which included a 364 lumber loader. Everything works like it were factory new but the logs on the 364 dont seem to catch on the belt very well. They get tangled up on the unloading section before the ramp and only will go up the ramp if I do one at a time. Even the one log takes a while to inch up the ramp.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? I was thinking of rubbing the logs with a scuff pad to give it some ridges so it will catch onto the belt better, but wanted to run this by you guys first…

In an earlier post someone suggested using 3/8" dowel stock, and cutting them to fit the origional log length.

The 3/8" diameter is heavier and should keep them from sliding.

I don’t remember this being a problem with the original one. Was the belt replaced? It sounds like it doesn’t have enough friction to grab the logs.

John,

My 364 does the same thing. Try using the 3361-21 logs instead of the standard 164-64 logs, they seem to work better. I think this problem is more of a design flaw than anything else.

pete, the belt was replaced from what they told me…I think its origional though. Thanks for the input guys.

A little more info on this… there is a metal piece under the spot light that spins in the oposite direction of the belt. The logs are getting stuck there as well. Still impossible to have more than one log on the accessory at once. Also, the logs I am using are 3/8" wide…is this thing just garbage? It has been in my family for 3 generations now and Im keeping it no matter what, but Id like to be able to use it [banghead]

This is basically a bulletproof accessory. There is a charateristic that is common though. Sometimes the last log will get dragged up and get caught on a piece of the diagonal sheet metal further up the chute, but that can be tweaked.

I would think your repro belt isn’t great. Probably not original.

rough up the logs, the barrel loader does the same thing if the barrels are shiny. they need a flat no shine finish like plain stain for color.
