Hey everyone, earlier this week I posted that 3985 would be comng on Labor Day to my town. Well today is the day (finally!!!). I will be going to my towns depot at around noon (california time) and get some photos of it at track speed, well maybe just one or two. Then around 3 I will be going an hour north to a town called Dunsmuir where they will be spending the night and I am going to get all over that engine. Plenty of pics will be posted tonight for you guys!!! [:)][:p][:D][8D][:I][:p][:p][:D]

OK the train was late so we got to the depot @ 1:30 and the train came @ 2. They made an unscheduled stop to pick up some passengers and do a little servicing which saved us the drive up north. What a locomotive! Absolutly amazing. Anyway, here are the pics I promised…

I would have, but there was only a few feet of platform, then a fence on the other side.
I understand. I had problems when 3985 visited Milwaukee back in 2001. The sun was directly overhead, so neither side was properly lit, and the bottom half of the loco on both sides was in shade.

Well, seeing how you all are hungry for pics of the Challenger, here are a few of mine. Bear in mind that theese are only about 1/8 of what I have(4 rolls of 24 exposure film) but I am trying to put more on every couple days as I get them scaned and cropped so check back often!!
Theese are all taken either her first or second day out on the open rails. If it is labeled RS it was taken in the city of Rock Springs Wy., if It is labeled GR it was taken in Green River Wy., and if it is labeled Peru, it was taken at the top of Peru Hill just west of Green River.

Re: the pictures in shade…
Underexposed is usually better than overexposed. Photoshop (or another graphic editing program) can probably help you burn or dodgethe pic to pull out some detail.
I love seeing steam locos moving at speed. I once wasted an entire weekend trying to get one on film. Between being at the wrong tracks, maintenance problems that forced a change of locos, and the loco FINALLY coming through at sunset - I was going CRAZY trying to get that sucker on film.
