I have a unlettered Bachman 4-8-2 HO Light Mountain and I would like to remove the boiler for painting without breaking it. The parts diagram does not make it apparent how to do this. I found the screw under the front pilot but cannot tell how boiler is attached in the back below the crew cab ( even after removing the trailing truck). I have painted several steam engines before but this has be baffled.
HELP Please.

This is taken from John Pryke’s article in the Sept. 2003 MR. I haven’t had my Lt. Mountains apart yet for detailing and paint but I’m sure it will work.
- Remove the leading and trailing trucks
- Remove the drawbar
- Pull the pilot deck ladders and boiler sway braces away from the boiler
4.Pull the power reverse away from the valve gear crank
- Pull the back of the frame down and to the rear of the engine. The boiler should slide of the weight.
- Remove the screw just in front of the drawbar mount. The top of the weight will now separate from the drivers and frame.
Hope this helps,
