I just saw a show on Steam Town and their excursion trains. The cars looked like typical Pullman style heavy weights but they had 4 wheel trucks on them.[%-)]
Anyone have any insight on this?
There were a lot of so called HW cars with 2 axle trucks. Just because its a HW car doesnt make it heavy. I think that the PRR B60 HW bagage car had 2 axles per truck. Most 3 axle trucks were put on not for axle loads but for ride quality. It took decades for the car builders to get a 2 axle truck to ride like a 3 axle truck on the American rails laid down as cheaply as posible and not as maintained as much as it should have been.

So, it wouldn’t be unheard of to replace my IHC HW 3 axle trucks with 2 axle?
Those 3 axle trucks have the offset bolster. A two axle truck may end up off centered and affect the look of the car unless you can modifiy the bolster position or hole in the truck.
No. My truck bolsters are in the middle under the center axle. That’s what’s throwing me. Otherwise I’d buy the Athearn 3 axle trucks and use those.
