Hi fellow modellers, I’m a newbie and tried to build a 4’ x 6’ HO layout, it worked great for me as I had the opportunity to build my own layout at last. I’m moving to a new place and wanted to expand it to a 6’ x 10’ layout. But I’m thinking of incorporating my HO slot car race track with it which is 4’ x 8’. Any layout suggestion?
dave56,
planning a layout is a process, that requires a lot of personal involvement. After all, it is going to be your layout, so it should incorporate a lot of your ideas and wishes. Without knowing your ideas, it will be hard to help you. If you just want to have layout suggestions, there are many fine books available, also from Kalmbach Publishing, our host in this forum. One of the “classics” I suggest as basic reading material is “101 Track Plans For Model Railroader” by Linn H. Westcott. Furthermore, a “Google” search using the key words “track plan” and “HO scale” will lead you to some interesting pages here in the web.
You need to do a little bit of homework to develop your own ideas first, then there will be some expert people in this forum to help you through the process.
Have fun!
Dave,
for the very first time i do not second Ulrich’s opinion.
The old 101 plans has lots of plans needing scratchbuilt switches and most plans are rather crammed.
The new 102 realistic trackplans is tmho the better choice…

… this time it is up to me to agree, Paul. Whether 101 or 102 track plans - the point is that there is enough reading and “imagineering” material at hand to get the guy thinking on what he would like to have … [:-,]
Edit:
dave56 - you seem to have interested Paul in this thread - lucky you! He, Byron and Stein are some of those experts I mentioned earlier. This list is not complete -. I hope I now have not stepped on somebody´s toes by not mentioning the name… [swg]
