I got these today. It seems like I hit the jackpot. It looks like it has 2 in the front and 3 pushing. I thought you might enjoy seeing these. It is a rare sight here.
Very nice, 8500! They’re a rarer site here. I don’t think we’ve ever gotten an 80MAC on CSX or NS in my town. Great shots, they are impressive, aren’t they?
I was supprised to see them again. But 3 pushing was a nice sight. They throttled up about 60 yards before they got to me and the sound of all that horsepower was something to hear. I have it also on video.

Nice catch! I would really like to see ( and hear ) one of those things. But they are so rare, and they seldom come this far south, I dout I ever will. I did however get to see a UP SD90/43MAC leading a NS train not too long ago. Those are very cool, also!

Nope, what you saw was an SD80MAC. A 5,000 HP unit that looked esentially like the SD90MAC. Conrail ordered 28 of them and got the 2 EMD demonstraters, making for a total of 30 units. They were the only ones built. When Conrail was split, CSX got a few SD80MACs but NS got the most, which is odd because NS has all DC diesels aside from the now misfit SD80MACs. The unit you saw is rare, not to many are still in Conrail paint.
