5000 POSTS....................

This is post number 5000 for me. I don’t put a lot of stock into post counts but when I think about how much time I’ve spent here when I could have been modeling… LOL, I would probably have my layout half finished by now. It’s been an interesting trip so far and I can say I learned a lot of interesting techniques along the way. I’ve met a few people and for sure I’ve upset a few people in my 7 and a half years on this forum, lol. I’ve got a few hobbies but Model Railroading is the only one that I’m involved in that has so many people from different age groups, walks of life, rich and not so rich that can participate in it at the same level. This truly is going to be a life long hobby for me so hopefully I’ll make it to 10000. [B]

Congratulations on your 5000th!

A toast [B] to you!

Yes, it is amazing how much time, worthwhile or not, valuable or not, validated or not, that we spend here.

However, we have a long ways to go to catch up to those who have 15,000 PLUS posts!!!

May you have 5000 more!

Hey!!

Congrats on hitting the 5,000 post mark!!

[<:o)][<:o)]

Congratulations! Although your point about the amount of time invested in posting versus time which could have been better used advancing the layout is an extremely valid one. I am guilty of that myself. I think I amass many more hours watching Youtube videos of other layouts than I do working on my own! And now MR has reactivated their webcam! For sure progress will slow down to a grinding halt…![]

Congrats on 5,000. You think you’ve been spending a lot of time here? Take a look at my count and you’ll feel a lot better.

Congrats, TA462.

There was a time that my post count was appropriately low, but then I retired.

I have often maintained that most of my replies are drivel. Every once in a while, I have something useful to say and to contribute.

You just have to sort through the drivel.

Rich

Congrats!

From what I’ve seen, too, most of your posts are quality ones (if at times somewhat contentious). Not much in the way of commenting on the weather or ordering a cup of coffee in the diner.

Keep it up!

Congrats on post # 5,000!

With close to 4,500 posts in about 2 3/4 years I might even catch up with you one day. I don´t think I´ll ever beat Jeff, though [swg]

I don’t drink coffee. Makes me too jittery.[(-D]

… and I suppose I’m going to have to READ them all… SIGH.

(Just kidding!)

Way to go on the big Five Oh!

uh… Oh!

er… Oh!

Whatever.

Way to go!

Congratulations!

Spending time here rather than at the layout is always a question. However, I feel that if I have learned something that saves me time doing or having to tear out and do over again, it is well worth it. There is also the satisfaction of helping someone else, whether they use my idea or not, it may give them another option. Sometimes there are other factors, making it easier or more convenient to be here than actually at the layout.

Have fun,

Richard

Actually that is not a LOL matter. When I got to 5000, I roughly calcualted how much time that meant and I was floored. I figured with the posting and, editing (which don’t count in the number), I had spent an average of 10 minutes per post. I dont’ have a lot of the 3 second “that’s cool” type posts. That doesn’t count the many hours of research on questions people have ask, nor the time spent on Atlas RTS making layout diagrams for people. Anyway when I got to 5000, I vowed to spend less time on the forum and more time on real models. So far I’ve not done too bad, I’m accumulating numbers much slower that I had been.

When I get to 10000 I’m going to retire this ID ,which I’ve never really liked anyway, and start over.

LOL

Hey it beats Rich HO Train.

What was I thinking???

Rich

WHAT! You mean, Rich H. O’Train isn’t actually your real name !?!?

Next thing I suppose you’re gonna be telling me is that Gandy Dancers can’t dance…

What is this world coming to???

Welcome to MP 5000 !!! [bow] [bow] [bow] [bow] [bow]

Congratulations on your milestone!

Sometimes I question why I spend any time on the forums but my answer is always the same:

They are very informative and entertaining, and the value of what I have learned far outweighs the time spent.

I also thoroughly enjoy those few occassions when I have been able to help a fellow modeler.

Dave

Congrats. At the rate I post, it will take me another 22 years to get to that milestone.

Tom

I hir 500 reciently. AS far as spending time on the forums I am retired and enjoy them much. The 1st couple of years I thought Elliots Diner and CTT Coffee Pot were a waste of time. Now I enjoy them emensley. But they really add to the time.

I don’t think I could ever reach 5000 posts. My interests in the hobby are quite narrow, and I usually won’t contribute anything to a discussion unless it’s a topic I know something about or if it’s a topic that arouses my interest.

Don’t sell your contribution short. The thoughtful posts often add much more to the community than some fo the more frequent and flippant ones. One of my peeves are where the poster jumps in and answers a question they want to answer rather than the question the poster asking. Read twice before pressing the reply. I guess I’m saying one does not have to have a high post rate to be a valuable and interesting contributor.

All of this should not to take away from TA462s milestone!
