What wasn’t mentioned in this piece is that apparently she has her old whistle back. Last year she was running with a UP whistle that had been returned after a dispute in the restoration left her without her original whistle, which is privately owned.

Got some great pictures as she roared through Lexington NC yesterday. I sat in the van for several hours as there were several delays. Turns out it was worth it as I got good pictures also of the Walbash heritage unit, and pictures of an unwanted CP train loaded with lumber headed South. EHH, please leave all that Northern snow up there before heading South.lol

Was the “unwanted CP train” actually an NS train running with CP power, or does CP have trackage rights?

Mr. Alexander please note than low snow is causing havoc with the Iditarod (Dog Race) in Anchorage and the warm weather has delayed the opening of the “Ice Roads” in the NWT

I am almost sure they have trackage rights as this was all CP power. I don’t know for certain. My comment was made in light of the proposed merger. Mr. Warner, I was just stating we Southerners don’t want any snow. The tops of the CP unit was covered with snow and was falling off as it went by. I did not mean to offend anyone.

It was most likely a run-through train off a CP line. As far as I know, CP has no trackage rights in North Carolina. Or NS could have been using borrowed power. I’ve seen trains running through Crewe VA using all UP power, for instance.

What was the purpose of the gondolas?

Added braking and probably coal for the April trips out of Spencer and Greensboro.

She sounds so good with the ex-600 and supposedly ex-606 whistle. Truly beautiful after the raspy FEF Hancock whistle, her voice has returned.
