65TH Anniversary Model Railroader car

I found 2 of these Athearn kits at a hobby shop yesterday. Are they worth anything and if so should I go back and get them?

I don’t know about there worth, but I’ve seen them go on Ebay for about 7 dollars or so. I’d love to get one sometime.

The shop is asking 18 bucks Canadian. If you seen them on Ebay for 7 then I think I’ll pass on them. They don’t really fit into what I’m doing anyways.

The 65th Anniversary Cars are probably worth no more than $7-$9 as they are still quite commonly found. It’s when you get back before the 50th anniversary car that the values tend to start increasing. Note that the 40th anniversary car is difficult to find in excellent condition (it had a poor paint job that damaged easily), while the 25th is fairly rare simply by attrition. This latter car was also the only one ever done by Mantua.

Probably the rarest car associated with MR was not an anniversary car at all but a gon lettered for the MR&T, MR’s in-house HO layout. The production run was small to begin with and, as I recall, was done specially for an NMRA convention perhaps 20 years ago. I think there might have been an excess, which was sold off by Con Cor. Either way, I haven’t seen one of these cars come up for sale in a long time.

That’s another one I’ve been looking for, is the MR&T car. I’d love to get them but I doubt I will.

Just unpacked my HO stuff after nearly 20 years in storage & found the 50th anniversary car , a gift from some friends for helping to build a computer room in their basement.
