got the engine on monday, still dealed in the bachmann box, 70 tonner w/DCC ( i run DC) , when i first put the engine on…nothing, i cleaned it prperly with goo gone, cleaned all the track. the engine performance is iffy at best. my 35 tonner just scoot along with no issues, goes threu all the Peco turnout with no problem, the 70 tonner can barely move without a small ( or not so small) nudge. Im kinda pissed because i was regaining faith in bachmann. I really like the 35 tonner and it is a charm and a perfect fit on my layout but this 70 tonner is a big disaapointement so far… am i doing something wrong? does it need more intricate cleaning and lubing than what i did? does it require me to switch from dgital to analog? help please
if its a new one make sure all the conections are tight, i use mostly steam spectrums and one time got one that the pin was not in compleatly so ran intermitenly, sorry cat spell. next check all wipers, somtimes they get bent in shipping
DCC equipped locos don’t always run well on DC. Did you read the instructions? there might be a jumper you have to move to allow it to run propely on DC (like Atlas Dual Mode Locos).
I have 3 0f the DC 70 tonners and 2 of the 44 tonners (not 35t). They all have the same drive.
I seem to remember another thread from yesterday with a similar problem. The posters recommended cleaning the wheels of the new loco and also cleaning and relubing the gears, then running it at a high speed each direction for 20 minutes, then half speed each direction for 20 more minutes. I believe that cured the problem with new 70 tonners.
I’d post the link to the thread, but it’s 12:30 a.m. and I can find it at the moment. (Yawn) [|)]
Please post what you find out. I’m wanting to pick up one of the new 70 tonner engines myself…if they are worth it!
This may be it.
yea the cleaning i did initially made it work a bit but the problem is in the chaning direction and the starts. i hooked ut up with jumper last night, clean the wheel with goone gone and a bright boy. put it on the layout, ran fine forward, reverse direction and …nothing. i got it to run back and forth a bit but it perform like a old tyco that hasnt seen the light on day in 25 years… should i just send it back to bachmann and see if they can replace/fix it?
The Bachmann engines run tight as the gears and the motor seem to need broken in. We had the same problem and once they ran a few minutes (30 or so) they began to smooth out. BUT this was on DCC. Now remember that the Bachmann engines are using the lowest quality Lenz decoder (made especially for Bachmann) so don’t expect a lot out of the decoder in comparing them to the top of the line Digitrax, NCE or Lenz.
