I am looking to buy a 726 Berkshire from 1946 with double worm drive and the atomic motor…I also want the one with the 2426w tender, the die-cast tender, the big heavy one…York, PA train show is comming up in a week or so and i have no idea what it will cost me to buy a 726 from 1946…does anyone know a price estimate on what i am looking for??..my friend told me $500 to $700 dollars…maybe $1,000 with boxes…thanks

Your friend is probably right about York. Ebay typically has them for $300-500 in plentiful amounts.

Got my 726 on ebay for 400.00 plus shipping a few years ago. It has no boxes but is in VG to excellent condition. Im not sure if the values have changed from when I bought it but seems to be around what I see them selling for.

As you already know by your list of features, the 1946 726 was a “one year only”. It used the pre-war boiler and pilot castings with a post-war smoke box front. The handrails are held by Stantions, not cotter pins, smoke comes from the "Smoke Bulb (note, many were after market converted to heater type). They all had the 12 wheel die-cast tender from the pre-war 226E and 763E but with post-war trucks. To find one all original, you will pay $$$. The 1947-49 with the a single worm drive, changes to the engine castings, but the same tender can be had for much less and are smoother operators.

Note, the Williams Berkshire is a copy of the 1946 castings but with a can motor.
