My newest Project is Installing a Heavy Steam Tsunami in a Bachman 2-6-6-2 C&O H-5
The decoder has a wiring harness atached but no male 8 pin plug to conect to the
8 pin female receptor on the Bachman PC board
I couldn’t find any 8 pin MALE connector harnesses
only a 9 pin to 8 pin like this

Which will work if i cut the 9 pin end off

I’m not sure I’m following this, but I think what you’re saying is you have a sound decoder that has wires sticking out of it…like you would use in a hardwire installation.
If that’s right, the harness you show in your link is what you need. If you carefully peel the protective covering back from the last 1/4" or so of the decoder where the wires come out, what you’ll see is the decoder is connected to a nine-pin harness, that’s what the wires are connected to. You can carefully pull the harness out, then plug in the 9-pin to 8-pin harness shown in your link.
The ninth purple wire is used for a speaker for a sound decoder generally. I would cut it short but not completely remove it.
You can get replacement wiring harnesses with the 9-pin JST plug on one end and the 8-pin NMRA plug on the other end in several different lengths from several DCC suppliers.
Simply remove the wiring harness that is connected to the Tsunami, which is a 9-pin JST header, and plug in the replacement harness.
Wiring harnesses are available from Litchfield Station, Tony’s Train Exchange, Ulrich Models, and many other DCC dealers.

You can also cut back the shrink a little and unplug the connector. Buy the 8 pin to 9 pin adapter and plug it into the decoder. SoundTraxx says that is ok. Where the wires go into the deocder is a 9 pin JST connector. This issues pops up un different DCC forums.

…or you can solder your leads to the 8 pin plug on the board. Just take your time.

Actually Rich I ordered 2 of those but after getting them I didn’t want to use them
because they are beyond my soldering skills
it’s much easier to just solder 2 wires together
Yep that’s true David but i’m Not very good at soldering so
i’ll go with the 9 to 8 pin adapter
