8769 Switcher

I have converted this unit to AC power. I did not limit the voltage and burned the motor up pulling a load. Would anyone know what type of motor was originally used or a better replacement?

Hello TMCRacing! Are you asking about the Prewar version? 1939-42 or the 1989 version Lionel Made? Both came with AC Motors and 3-pole Armatures & series wound fields They never came with DC Motors although they can run on DC Current as the Motor is a universal version and can run on both types of voltage. If you need a replacement Try George Tebolt, Olsen’s Toy Trains, Or Dr. Tinker’s Toy Train Parts. All of them have websites & should be able to help you out. Take Care.

The Doctor Is In: The Switcher that TMC Racing is talking about is a DC Only model that
Lionel made in the MPC era. They used can motors. A heavy duty can motor might do it, such as the ones used in newer locos. You may also have to upgrade the gears. And make sure your AC Conversion is the same as the current ones. Good Luck.

Interested in what ‘TMCracing’ implies??? Drag racer (another one???)

Sorry, I was thinking of the B-6 Switcher Lionel Made.
