89' Flat Cars

What is the difference between an ACF hitch and a PS hitch on an 89’flat car?

i don’t want to sound like a smart mouth, but, google ACF hitch then google Pullman Standard hitch and you will be able to see pictures that show the difference in the two designs.

I continue to be amazed at what the internet has done for us in terms of authoritative information being at our finger tips (or being at our finger tips once JABEAR does the heavy lifting for us).

So basically the P-S (orange) is the one used at the B end to extend the mounting of 45’ trailers so they over hang and allow 2 45’ trailers. The ACF hitch amidships (black). This would be the post 1982 configuration.

Note: Walthers RTR flush deck TTWX flat cars came either with two P-S hitches or two ACF hitches. But to outfit them properly to hold two 45’ trailers you need to swap one hitch from each to provide a P-S on the end and ACF in the middle.

For pre-1982 flat cars which carried 2 40’ trailers or 1 40 and 1 45’, they had two ACF hitches IIRC.
