89' tri level auto carrier

if anyone owns or has ever had any kind of experience with Walthers “gold Line” Thrall 89’ tri level auto carrier please let me know what you think about it. How do they perform, are they unreliable, are the wheels out of guage, is the coupler height off, is it difficult to change the couplers to kadees, does it wobble as its going down the track at moderat speeds, or is it a perfect dream car right out of the box? lem’me know please.
Any reply would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS

Sean

Personally I like mine a lot. I bought two last year that came in that 2pair set that they sell, ran them on the club’s layout and not once did I have a problem with them. At that club there is a tight hairpin turn that the two together had no problem. I like them so much that I’ve bought 6 more and counting.

Some people change out the wheels because the axel is made of plastic and has the potenchial of warping, but I just left mine alone for now. Of course you will want to change the coupler to Kadee–everyone does.

Here is kind of a picture of mine when I ran that club layout.

thanks for replying

I have over 25 of them now. They are outstanding runners. They don’t wobble at all. They also look great. As far as the Kadees, I can’t answer that because I am happy with the couplers that come with them. They are also a fantastic model to weather. If you look on Ebay you can get some great deals. I bought 90% of them there for $17.00 with $4.50 shipping for all cars total. I am still trying to get the Norfolk Southern one with the yellow bottom. They were a limited edition and are hard to find.

wow, thats out standing, I am so pleased to hear that.

I get mine for $13 with no shipping cost. I just bought 4 ( have not gotten them yet ) for $53.

why did you post pictures of engines? did you get the pictures mixed up?

thanks,
Sean

those are really nice looking models though

Remember you need alot of space to run these big cars

Caz,

The pics are in my signature. They are in all my replies. The Turbine is an Overland brass I painted a while ago. The Brass 4-12-2 is one I just got done airbrushing. WERE do you buy the cars that cheap. Please let me in on it???[:D] $13.00 with no shipping, you have to be kidding.

How about a couple of good cose-up side shots and one end shot? Does the doors open for an inside shot?

CurtMc:
needing big curves is not a problem, I will be running them on the San deigo meusem layout that has a minimum radius of 48" and a max of 56", I dont think there is anything that CANT run on that lol. appreciate the concern though.

thanks,
Sean
