9/09 Issue Error, Again No Respect for AF

Now I’ve had a chance to more thoroughly peruse the new issue I notice there’s an error in the Q&A section at the top of p.30. The caption reads, “American Flyer’s no.336 4-8-4 Northern steamer was the king of all postwar S gauge locomotives.” However, the locos in the illustration are a couple of no.326 4-6-4 Hudsons, except for the prices it looks alot like page 18 of the 1953 AF catalog. Maybe a West coast edition?

Just kidding about the “no respect” deal, goofin’ on a previous thread. [:D]

Ah, that’s my fault - I edit Ray’s column (he drops by and drops it all off and I shake and bake it) and I would have sworn it was the right loco! Oh, I did get my eye glass prescription changed, so I should be able to read little numbers better!

Bob,

While on the Question & Answers, you were right (sort of) on the 700E cable. It is to carry power from the tender to the locomotive.

The 1937 Lionel Hudson special catalog calls it a “Tie-In Cable” “Flexable rubber-covered cable ties-in collector shoes on tender and locomotive in order to bridge gap in outside third rail at the switches.”

The 700E came with both rollers for center third rail and outside third rail sliders with stanless steel runners for the scale operators. The 1940 (page 9) and 1941 (Page 6) catalogs have tranparent color views of the 700E running gear, it shows the mounting of motor, “E” unit, headlight, and how the wires are routed.

Way to man up, Bob. For me the tipoff was the three relatively large visible whitewall drivers instead of the four I shoulda been seeing.

Given the title of this thread esp “NO Respect…”

I take exception to the comments " Maybe a West coast edition?"

And, " Ah, that’s my fault - I edit Ray’s column (he drops by and drops it all off and I, shake and bake it)

Now talk about abuse…this is uncalled for! Where is the locolawyer?

Hey, this is a big improvement over the past! At least the expert makes a very appropriate response to the question and shows some knowledge of Flyer electronics.

I’ll never forget the past issue of CTT in which the “expert” advised a questioner to throw out a 19B Flyer transformer (which was probably worth over $200) with a “Dead Man’s Control” that was functioning properly BECAUSE the “Dead Man’s Control” was functioning properly (but the neither the “expert” or the questioner had a clue about Flyer transformers or their features).

I’ll be sure Ray sees the comments (he isn’t internet savy).
