9 pin plug

What Digitrax decoder would go with this http://dcchobbysupply.com/zcart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19&products_id=30&zenid=2efb24d2930734b78c527c89808afa39 ?

I need to know if the decoder will work good in a Athearmn RS-3? (Maximum price for decoder $30.00)

You do not need that harness. It is for older ‘Blue Box’ engines. The RS3 is ‘DCC Ready’ and any of the current DH123/DH163/DH165 series decoders should work fine. Just pull out the attached cable and plug the decoder into the provided Athearn socket.

And…Depending on the number of functions you need / want (run the engine, lights front and back) and an additional…the DH123 for about $18 to $20 is all you need.

Here is the inside of a RTR SD40-2 with the Quick Plug. The RS-3 should be similar, just less roomy inside.

Many decoders have the 9-pin plug. In this engine I used a Digitrax DH123. A TCS T1 would also work. Both are 2 function decoders. The T1 adds BEMF for better motor control. NCE and Lenz also make 9-pin decoders.

Just ordered a TCS T1 from my LHS!

Just send John a message there at DCC Hobby Supply. He will tell you exactly what you need. That guy knows his stuff, and is one of the cheapest decoder retailers I have seen.

I bought a Digitrax DH123PS for $20.00. It works really good![:D]
