#909 smoke fluid

I have some early 60’s scout engines and wanted to get these beauties off the shelf and running again. One of them has a liquid smoke unit that used the old #909 smoke fluid. Can someone tell me what Product I can use to get the smoke unit working again. Do I need to use only the old 909 fluid or can I use the new liquid smoke products without damaging the mechanism. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave,

I have a Lionel 239 with the liquid smoke unit. I use current Lionel smoke fluid in it. It smokes better than all of my MPC and LTI Lionels.

Smoke Fluid? I’ve used both the MTH and LGB with good results on all of my engines and smoking cabeese, regardless of manufacturer. Scented smoke can be made by a few drops of candle scent,(this must be non-wax,light fluid) and even after shave, (caution, this stuff is an alcohol base, it is flamable, mix 2-3 drops of your shave to 1oz smokefluid and allow alcohol to boil off. Works great, 5-years in use,so-far,so good. Slick

I HAVE TRYED THIS SUPER SMOKE FLUID AND FIND THAT IT WICK’S REAL FAST FISRT TIME OUT OF BOTTLE & YOU CAN GET IN PINE,MINT,CEDER SCENTS,BUT FOUND ONE BOTTLE ON OUT VERYLARGE LAYOUT,FROM PA,TAG ON SIDE OF BOTTLE SAID “LEIGH VALLEY TRAINS SERV.”(FOR LIVE STEAM),SOMEONE PUT IN THIER DIESEL,CAME OUT SMELLING LIKE BURNT RUBBER,I AM KNOW TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THEM TO SEE IF THEY KNOW WHAT PROBLEM IS IN SMELL(ADD.,ON BOTTLE)EMMAUS PA 18049
