A 20th Century Ltd. quiz

Here’s a kinda fun quiz. In what major motion picture did the 20th Century Ltd. have a prominent role?

the goat

Too easy…North By Northwest.

Cary Grant spends some quality time with Eva Marie Saint on the Ltd while escaping from the bad guys

Yup, I guess that was too easy. NBNW is one of my favorite movies. One of the Hitchcock subtleties at the end of the picture was the train entering the tunnel as Cary hoists Eva into the upper berth of the sleeper.

True about North by Northwest, but a better answer might be “Twentieth Century” starring John Barrymore and Carole Lombard. I saw it a week or two ago on Turner Classics, it’s considered one of the best ‘screwball’ comedies ever and has been revived in recent years on Broadway. Most of the movie takes place on the train.

Twentieth Century

GN: Love NORTH BY NORTHWEST a lot, myself. But if you take a good look, that train entering the tunnel at the end of the film is NOT the “20-th Century Limited,” it’s SP’s “San Joaquin Daylight.” It threw me a little when I first saw the film, then I realized what Hitchcock was doing, and just relaxed and laughed.
