a 3 truck shay ????

I heird a rumer that bachman is going to be coming out with a G gauge 3 truck shay is this true? [:D]

Rumor is right, a rumor.
They announced it, but I hope someone thinks hard about it first.

When they announced the Vulcan Duplex, folks screamed.
They wanted a C-16, C-19, C-21.
The answer was, we just came out with a 2-8-0 (actually 3+ years before), why would we compete with ourselves?
Someone will probably remember that.

The Climax, on the other hand, has been LONG out of production (and updating) and parts.
Come out with THAT as a three-trucker, won’t be as long, and we’d have it.

Now we wait and see what transpires this time next year.

Is the hypothetical 3 truck Shay due out before or after the hypothetical K-27?

Given that we are getting the railtruck early next year, i thought we’d get the K next Xmas and the 3 truck the year after, either way its 2 years off before we’d see one

I did not hear about the K27 is their a link you could post [?]

The 3-truck whatever is due this time next year, the K-27 in spring or summer of 07.
This was on the Bachmann board.

Here’s one K-27 link:

Thanks !!!

Thanks Dave, I got those two backwards.

Plus, you never know with the schedule.
Might end UP backwards!

The 1:20.3 scale 3-truck Shay was announced at the iHobby show in October. From the Bachmann website:

SPECTRUM Steam

1:20.3 Three Truck Shay, DCC On Board, Sound, Analog Compatible $1200

Item No. 82494 Oregon Lumber #110
Item No. 82495 Little River Lumber Co. #5
Item No. 82496 Meadow River Lumber Co. #7
Item No. 82497 West Side Lumber Co. #4
Item No. 82498 Painted, Unlettered (black w/ red & white trim)
Item No. 82499 Painted, Unlettered (black)

The K-27 was not “announced” but is still in the works according to the company. Just not far enough along to make an actual announcement for production.

As with anything, it’s vaporware until it shows up on store shelves, but unlike Bachmann’s ill-fated Vulcan, the response has been fairly positive with regard to a 3-truck shay. Besides, they just dumped a ton of money into retooling the trucks, may as well get more milage out of it. Folks who buy a 2-truck shay will buy a 3-truck shay. Geared steam fans are funny that way. Bachmann isn’t competing with themselves here, they’re complimenting themselves.

(Look at the Accucraft shays–how many folks own both the 2-cylinder 3-cylinder versions? And they’re much more expensive than the B’mann ones will be.)

If that news release is true, Bachmann is sticking their neck way out by putting DCC into a model – some people don’t want Bachmann’s idea of DCC. If I were going to purchase one, the first thing I’d have to do is tear out their decoder and put an AirWire900 receiver into it because I run only wireless DCC and battery power, and I don’t like the idea of paying for a “feature” that I don’t want and can’t use.

The same holds true for Bachmann’s plans to release HO scale locomotives with DCC and sound already installed. Whose sound decoder are they going to use? If it’s not going to be a QSI, Digitrax, SoundTraxx Tsunami, or LokSound decoder, they can keep their models.
