A Corolla's Journey

As threatened in a previous thread, I bought a Corolla to replace my 1993 Camry. I was wondering which railroads would bring it and other new cars to the Buffton, SC area. The journey starts at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA; so I would imagine BNSF or Union Pacific would have the autoracks for the first half of the trip. At some point the cars would be handed off to CSX or Norfolk Souhern and routed into either Jacksinville, FL or Savannah, GA. Does anybody know for sure?

Most likely UP (probably AWSNP then MNPKC) would make to hand-off to NS at Kansas City, MO. Or, it might go to CSXT at Valley Junction, IL (via ALS). From there, I do not know what route it would take.

Wouldn’t it be fun to put an RFID tag on the car and track it like wildlife!!

Some car companies actual do put tracking devices in new cars. I’ve seen them used on that show “Operation Repo” to recover certain vehicles.

You could try asking your dealer, they might be able to help out. It could make for interesting conversation on both ends.

This is only a guess, but I would think your Corolla would ride the train to Atlanta or Jacksonville. Both Ford and GM’s plants in Atlanta are closed, but it seems logical that the auto loading facility(ies?) there would still be operating, because metro Atlanta is a sizable market and they could truck the cars for 200 miles in any direction. I’ve seen loaded auto racks going south thru Folkston, GA on CSX, so there must be a an unloading facility either in Jacksonville or further south. I’m guessing Atlanta is closer to you, so would think that is the more likely dropoff point.
