Today was a day of train surprizes. Our train club was invited to participate in an op session. I no sooner got in our van that a one of the club members handed me an ARbour Models 4-4-0. He had for 20 plus years and figured I’d get more use out of it then he would since he doesn’t model that era.
After 5 straight hours of ops sessions on a 3 level 25 x 75 foot layout with dispatcher, I got my Zephyer and DT400 which I have been waiting for for 2 months.
I also showed the model to the Digitrax dealer and we figured it would be no problem to get a decoder in the 4-4-0.
The next surprize was that we followed a guy to a train yard. (I didn’t know where we were going because I was late talking with the Digitrax guy.) The guy we were following had purchased an 80 foot Burlington Sleeper. We wandered around inside for a while and then did a driving tour of the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Train Repair Facility. Lots of cool engines.
On the way home we passed a coal drag and pulled over to watch it pass.
To top it off, when I got home, I found that I had won both John Armstrong books I bid on–I didn’t expect to get either of them.
I don’t expect tomorrow to be as good. The Greensburg show is in Pittsburgh it will be my first show bigger than a fire hall.
Guy sounds about like Mr. Haney on Green Acres (he says, dating himself).
Hope the show is a good one, Chip. My experience with Greenberg is a mixed bag. They have shows every year or so at the Dulles Expo, which is not extremely far from our house. Sometimes they have been worthwhile (I spent money), sometimes there is more junk, both train and non-train related, than I would like. I still want to get to the Great Scale Model Train Show in Maryland. However, there seems to be a conspiracy that keeps me from those. A conspiracy my wife with my wife at the center, that is.[#oops]
Dang! You talked me into it. I’m just going to trash my brand my Zephyr without trying it and buy a DCS system. And then, I’m going over to the toy section and buy a Troll Blocker for my Internet Explorer. One day will just get better than the next.
Pardon me while go to my basement and rip out all the decoders from my locos.
I really enjoyed the last Greenberg show I went to, in Wilmington, Massachusetts earlier this year. There was a booth with very nice, very reasonable pine trees. I bought some, even though at the time I didn’t even have any foam yet. The WirelessMicroColorCam guy was there, too. (I bought a system from him later, online.) I got a good price on some building kits, too, and enjoyed the operating layouts a lot.
Last Greenberg show I went to was heavily populated with 35-year old Tyco stuff and doll houses. If they want to be proud of “dominating” that, more power to them.

Absolutely no doubt about that! I like MTH and own a good many of their O gauge models, but the kind of overbearing and intrusive attitude exhibited by that fellow is a big turn-off for me, and I imagine it’s an even bigger turn-off for anyone who is not an MTH fan or who doesn’t care about MTH one way or another.
Most definitely NOT a way to support MTH, Mr. “MTHrules”, assuming that is even your intention. Could be that your really a “plant” for a competitor, with the goal of giving MTH a bad image among folks here. In any case, you’re coming across as your “favorite” brand’s own worse enemy.
Well, if it is anything to MTHRules, I like MTH the best out of the O gauge market, but…I’m an N scaler.[swg] Maybe if Mike goes into N scale, I’ll look more into his stuff.
Background: When BLI released one of their steam locos with 3 chuffs per driver revolution instead of 4, it was pandemonium on the QSI Yahoo group about how poor the sound quality was. BLI offered a replacement chip to fix it.
Last Fall at a local train show, there was an MTH booth with a small 3-rail display layout running, a loco pulling a coupel of cars around a simple loop. It had sound and smoke and all the goodies. I counted - 2 chuffs per revolution!
Doing a lot WRONG isn’t better than doing less, but getting it right.
Randy, the number of chuffs per revolution is user programmable on the DCS throttle from 1 to 11!! God knows why any one would want 11. Anyway, this was one of the unique features demonstrated to me at the NTS on the MTH booth.
