I hadn’t been feeling too good for about the past two weeks, so this morning, when I was feeling the worst of it, decided to take this day for some R&R. This of course, includes model railroading thearapy. So, on my list today is:
Have to get the rolling stock moved out of the living room to the layout area (catalogging, still not finished)
Number 1 will probably lead to the airbrush and some weathering.
Run a small general freight on the main line.
So, anything else I could do? How’s my list sound?
Y’know, I really can’t condone taking a day off of school to work on your trains. One could argue that if you’re well enough for the layout, you’re well enough for the classroom. However, I’d certainly make an exception if you’re coughing and sneezing a lot, because you’re not doing your classmates any favors if you give them whatever you’ve got.
On the other hand, I used to do that a lot when I was a kid, and I can’t say I turned out any worse for the experience.
A word of advice - don’t airbrush if you’re sneezing. Really messes up the paint job.
hahaha! Yea the sneezing may add unwanted overspray. Our school and state for that matter has been in a constant mode of sickness for about the past 4 weeks, and everyone in my family has had some form of the sickness that is going around, so I decided to stay home to aviod the risk of getting it anymore than what I already have. I would have went today, but last night I was feeling extremely bad and went to sleep early and didn’t get to study for two tests I had today. I thought I would stay home and re-coop and study for those tests. I make straight A’s and haven’t missed much school this year, so mom gives me a break every once in a while.
I would have gladly stayed in bed but I woke up after having around 16 hours of sleep with a sore back and a empty belly, so I got up and am plotting my day.
OK, straight-A students do deserve a break now and then. And if you needed to sleep for 16 hours, then you probably did the right thing. Now, go have some chicken soup.
And if they’re teaching you to say “I would have went…” in school, well, you’re better off with the trains.
Life is about learning. Included is learning about you. If you feel well enough to get out of bed, it doesn’t mean that you should be hopping a bus for the mall or the LHS. But if you are hungry, and can feel bored through the sickness, it is likely an indication that you can spare some time out of the sack. Some time.
Many of us think we are better when we are only just beginning to get there.
In all of this, I am just suggesting that you spend short periods away from absolute rest. Read and think. Run a train for a few minutes. Stay hydrated. Think about all the good things that are in your life.
I prefer it when sick people stay home from work or school. The bugs going around these days are getting harder and harder to shake. I remember twice this year people sneazing right in my face at the store and then being sick for the next two weeks. I think you did the right thing. Now turn off your computer and go run some trains![:D]
That was yesterday for me. I was sitting in the server room durring Webmaster, and I felt like hurling right on the computers, so I went home.
People say that you should stay in bed, and forget about trains, but trains do help. They cheer me up when I’m sick. Nothing like curling up in bed with the Walthers catalog, looking at all of those BLI and PCM engines you can’t afford!
I personally don’t see what all of those other people’s problems are! I take a break from school here and there to do train things such as railfan or run my models. You need a break from the lecture house sometimes. If you guys were still in school you’d feel the same way. And just because you’re sick doesn’t mean you’re in bed all day. If you feel up to it, run some trains and relax and watch them. It may help relax you and your muscles some. Maybe more then tossing and turning in a bed all day!
Well its now time to study for those tests I missed and take a shower, then get to bed (this all comes after the WVU championship game in the NIT!) Not much Model Railroading happened today though, I worked on two of our lawn mowers and cut some grass… a lot of fun that was! (NOT). Back to school tomorrow though, but I am picking up a layout that i purchased a few months ago, can’t wait to get it home, and i cant wait to see it in person. I hope to ahave pics monday. Night everyone!
