A Double Header

I notice that most doble headed MU’s put the first loco forward and the second reversed. But that is not always the case, just most of the time. MY guess is that it is just which ever way ti is pointed. Still most of the time it’s back to back.

Is there a reason one way or the other?

They are put back-to-back generaly because if the train is running down a branchline with no way to turn the entire train around on it’s return run, (like when the train comes into Kelowna every day) The lead engine will always be pointing forward:
