I started in modeling an HO 8’ x 12’ 1950’s to 1960’s DC layout ,called corbyn city, in march of 2010, when my grandson, corbyn (10) said he wanted a train set. Since then corbyn has been in charge of train operation. Grandmom has taken over all scenery and landscaping, I am now in charge of making everything work. We are now scratch building all structures, and are replacing the inexpensive store bought structures as grandmom decides. As an example we have an elevated track that runs between a one room school house and a turntable and roundhouse. I was planning on puting an 8’ chainlink fence between the school and the train yard under the elevated track . Grandmom said that the trainyard would be very distracting to the students in the school house. She wanted a stockade fence. She also wanted the fence high enough to hide any movement in the trainyard from the students in the school. We now have a 22’ high 336’ long stockade fence in place and it looks great. My point is, this is a great hobby, and it is made even better when the whole family is involved.
Sounds great to have the whole family involved! It makes enjoying the hobby easier and more enjoyable with more participating.
MOH {My Other Half} is also into trains, fortunately for me. I am in HO scale, MOH likes Nscale. I do have some N scale stuff i run under the Xmas tree on that layout, which MOH is “in charge of”.
I have a very small HO layout in space we can afford for it.
When we take vacations, we like to go to steam train tourists lines and check out other hobby shops in that area. We love to see/smell coal burning/look at/ride steam train tourists lines. This summer we hope to go toConnecticut to ride a steam train that will take us to a steam boat then back to the steam train again. We live only 1.25 hours from SteamTown in Scranton PA. so we go there a lot, though we are getting tired of it, admittedly. They should have a new steamer running this summer and another one under rebuild they hope sometime to have up and running. so new steamers will draw us in again.
I have little if any arguement when I suggest a vacation or weekend to a steam train tourist site!!
So congrats o the whole family being involved in such a wonderful hobby!
