It has been a wonderful weekend in good old Blackpool so I have a bit more work done. Had a look in the window of my local shop today, C&S and Rio Grande stock cars in, Rio Grande gon and a few tankers - all Bachmann, I’ll be there next Saturday!

What are your plans for where the flagstones meet the curves? I noticed a visual gap there, are you going to cut the tiles or just leave well enough alone? Am I mistaken or is that the sun trying to peek through the gray British sky in the first photo?
Hi guys, It will be finished by the time Ian comes visiting! T-Jack, I have tried a few different things on the curve section, this is the main way into the garden from the front, from sets to bashed about flags and in the end back to good old pea gravel. It’s part of the balast for the track and I can live with it as it is only this one curve. And yes, sunshine, these where taken in the evening!

No Matt, I used to live in the UK, I think in 3 years I saw the sun maybe twice. That is an “urban legend” that happens to be true. It’s still a great country to live in!
That’s good thinking, Kim. Sometimes it’s best to leave well enough alone and accept a compromise. I think we all have done that at one time or another. Good job and keep us posted!
Thanks for the words guys. Marty, my land is just plain old flat, no bridges and no place to stand to take pics looking up at the RR.
Ian, my control is good old train engineer, none of this fancy MTS stuff that you have. You put the loco on the track, hit the button and watch it go, so be prepared for that if you are bringing one of your european purchases with you.

Keep in mind that this is my 4th RR. the first two was on fllllllaaaaaatttt land. I like your idea of going around the outer parts of the yard. You can still creat some cool landscaps on flat land.

Yes Marty, you’re right. The major thing with this RR is going to be the planting and clever use of rocks. I intend to create a canyon where the track runs by the decking by using rocks and the right hand side will be the major planting area. At the top of the garden the RR will run through a wild area where I intend to let nature and all her creatures have her/their way. The left hand side is where the table normally goes and is a heavy traffic (human) area, so this will be just a straight track running between flags with a few planters scattered around. It will be 2 or 3 years really before the garden matures properly so I am looking forward to seeing (and posting the pics) it all happen. This is my second RR, the first was in the late 80’s and was a steep learning circle. Every lesson I learnt then is paying dividends now!
Cowboy Casper, hi mate and hello. Only one way to get started mate and that’s to buy some gear, a starter set usually, and get it outside. Any questions you have just post a new topic and we’ll all dive in to help.
T Jack, You got me thinking about that darn corner and you’re right, a gap. It’s all re done now and I’ll post a pic the next time we have sunshine, should be next year sometime! Thanks for pointing it out mate.
