A few photos of the layout we built at work

Well here it is our lay out. It is 4’x8’ with code 100 Atlas track and very simple ground work. It was a hude hit.

you got to build a layout at work ? that needs some explaining !

looking good !

Seems I am not the only person with out ballast and on a green matt/ out door carpet in my case. What I was most taken with was the highway. What did you use?

COOL!!! The guy in the blue shirt in the first pic sure looks like he’s enjoying it. I think it’s great what you folks are doing. [tup][tup] I think someone here has a tag line-“your never too old to have a happy childhood.”

The highway was simple. We drew it out on the grass mat with marker then misted a watered down solution of alcohol on it. After a few seconds we scraped off the grass and let it dry. We then painted the area black. The striping was done with pin striping tape from the auto parts store.

I work at a retirement center and while we have plenty of activities for the ladies here, there are very few for men. Our activity director, knowing that myself and some others were into trains, decided that it might be fun for the men here to work on a layout. The above layout was built to introduce the residents to it and hopefully gain some interest. It seemed to go over very very well and surprisingly there seemed to be more women interested than men. We plan on having two classes this coming Tues. and the next on building trains and layouts. We hope to eventually have a large fully functional layout.

yes everyone enjoyed it very much. I also enjoyed building the layout. The most fun for me was building the mountain and I think it turned out great.

The modular club that I am involved with does a layout every 6 months or so at a local assisted living home. It is a big hit with the residents there. They come out and watch us build the layout and run trains. Some just watch the trains go round and round while others ask us about the layout and trains.

If you dont mind me asking what is the name of the facility? The club you are in? Where are you located?

Ranchero, a nother member here did the same thing. I think his wife worked there but that has been sometime ago. There is nothing worse than having time on your hand and nothing to do. Much less watting for the grim repper with nothing to look forward to.

I have a slow pace job. On a busy day I may have 6 customers, that is a 11 hour day I will add. I take my train stuff to work and work on them, helps pass the time. Today I finshed a Fire Station and made 6 ceader tress. For a long day and a slow one with only 3 customers it made it pass quicker.

a very nice layout IMO.i hope everyone will enjoy and benefit from it.perhaps if you could donate a few issues of model rr magazine to the folks that will spawn their interest even more.i would be glad to donate some mags and some cars if need be.terry…

well lucky you for having a job where you can play with trains !

and lucky folks at the center for having you around

Great start. We will be expecting some UPDATE photos in the future…
