I’ model the New York Central, specifically the Boston & Albany…1944-1955
With that being said the other railroad(s) I find most intriguing are the Northern Pacific and the Great Northern. Some mighty fine locomotives and spectacular scenery.
Those are my close second. Absolutely wonderful railroads.
My SECOND favorite railroad is the Japan National Railway (surprise!)
My Favorite railroad is a tie:
Kiso Forest Railway - 762mm gauge, went from a collection of miniature teakettles to a collection of (mostly) four wheel diesels that shade-tree mechanics would love, pulling an assortment of cars rolling on 12 inch diameter wheels!
Kurobe Railway - 762mm gauge, electric power, primarily a tourist operation in a scenic gorge, with 41 tunnels and 25 bridges (which seem all out of proportion to the weight of the trains until you realize that the line was built to move turbines, generators and similarly massive pieces of hardware for a major hydroelectric development project involving several power plants, several dams and some unusual engineering.)
My second favorite railroad is my primary modeling prototype. I’d like to include the two favorites, but haven’t quite figured out how to accomplish the feat.
Love the look of a Santa Fe in War Bonnet paint. But got tired of it. So I went Monon black and gold only so far. Then I got hooked on Conrail, that blue is sharp. But UP is local and the Big Boys just do something for me, but yet the Reo Grand with the Black and yellow SD-7. I could go on but why waste your time.
I have not picked a time or rail road but having funny buying driffrent engines and rolling stock. If I had to pick it would be Monon, they ran through where I grew up, Carmel Ind.
