A grudging admittance

The first time I saw a photo of EMD’s SD70ACe, I thought, “what creature hath EMD spawned?!” Talk about an ugly locomotive. Then I started to see brand new SD70ACe’s leading trains through UP’s North Salt Lake Yard, and I began to have second thoughts about my first impression. While an SD70M with flared radiator housings will beat the SD70ACe hands down in looks, there is a certain uniqueness about UP’s newest locomotives. From the side (at least to me) the cab slightly resembles MLW’s wide-nosed M-line locomotives. Or maybe I’m merely dazzled by the sight of a locomotive so “fresh from the factory,” that the sunlight actually glints off of the side windows. [8D] Wonder if the charm will hold after these new locomotives get a few thousand miles and a coat of road grime… I’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, 'ya gotta love those super loud “wake the dead” airhorns on the new units. [:0]

They still all look alike to me…gimmie a old PA1 or a Sharknose anyday!!!

Amen to that, my friend! [bow]

I was thinking the same thing might happen for me… But nope. Still don’t like them. I certainly hope they won’t become the standard.

At least GE stuck with its current body style for the evolution series locos. I agree though in hoping the SD70ACe’s “style” won’t carry over to future models.
